About

896976_10152710596660147_1233867452_oElsewhere on this site you’ll be able to find out about my skill sets and career so I thought I’d provide more information about the man behind the MYST.

My name is Jonathan Lambert and I live with my wife in Manchester, England. In the day I’m a software developer but away from the keyboard I’m a keen walker, particularly fond of the many canals and reservoirs around my region.

Musically, my tastes are eclectic, brought up on a diet of sixties music courtesy of Piccadilly radio, I now have a very broad range of interest covering everything from the Hollies to Linkin Park.

manchester-united-logoI’m a big football fan ( sorry Americans, I mean real football, not the armoured rugby game you like to call football) and I am a passionate Manchester United supporter and I was once a season ticket holder.

Lands End 5I also enjoy long driving trips. I covered John O’Groats to Lands End in a 6 day, 2170 mile driving marathon back when prices at the pump
were a bit friendlier and I’m particularly fond of driving through the Scottish National parks in the middle of the night because you get to see some stunning wildlife and no light pollution other than that which your headlights produce. Scotland is one of my favourite places on earth and I’m a big fan of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

You will probably be able to tell from my posts but I take a keen interest in history and politics and I enjoy writing, despite my inability to spell when typing away furiously. I was Editor of a student magazine at college and I was a also an active member of the debating society. Although I’m a Software Engineer now, at some point I think I’ll turn my hand to the literary world as a hobby, I originally wanted to be a journalism before I found my way into software. I’m not short on ideas for books I’d like to write if only I had a time machine!

IMG_8787They say behind every good man is a good woman, and I’m no exception. I adore my amazing wife and wouldn’t be able to function without her support. I don’t know how she puts up with my terrible sense of humour and occasional tantrums but she does and she even let me pick a wedding venue within view of my spiritual home, Old Trafford and allowed me to dye my hair red to match the Manchester United theme for our wedding.

Life hasn’t always been easy and I’ve had a few challenges along the way, like everyone else but I’m well grounded and believe in giving something back to the community, which is why I try to do my small bit for charity when I can. I have a particular interest in homelessness because I think it’s something we all like to think will never happen to us but the reality is we have far less control over our fates than we would wish to believe.

Please take a look around the site and feel free to comment – I encourage debate and respect different views. Life is all about opinions and it would be very dull if we were all the same and agreed with everyone all the time!
